Took part in the first EDDY conference in Rotterdam

The first conference of the European Network for Digital Democracy (EDDY), “Digital Democracy: Bridging Theory and Practice”, ran 9–11 April 2024 at Erasmus University Rotterdam. I presented a poster there, “Partisan Bots or Neutral Models? Politically Aligning Large Language Models”, with Fynn Bachmann, Cristina Sarasua and Abraham Bernstein.

The question behind it: can large language models be aligned to the viewpoints of Swiss political parties? We had the models fill in a political questionnaire and compared their ratings against those of actual Swiss politicians, testing three routes to alignment — prompt engineering, retrieval augmented generation, and finetuning.
