Presented "Bursting the Burden Bubble?" at BNAIC 2022
For our course on Human Centered Machine Learning, we assessed Sharma et al.’s counterfactual-based fairness metric and presented it at the final poster session. Our instructor liked the idea and asked whether we wanted to submit it to a conference, which turned out to be a great way to see the academic world beyond our studies.
We sent the work to the Benelux Conference on Artificial Intelligence and were accepted as an oral presentation. It was great to spend time with good people in Mechelen, and it planted the seed for thinking about a PhD afterwards. It also spoiled me a little: they hired a magician for the conference dinner, and no conference since has quite lived up to it.
